2003 was a year most of us will remember with much sadness, as it was the year Gareth Williams died aged just 35. Despite the sadness, there are very many happy memories of his time as a cricketer at Chawton and we all have a constant reminder with 'Gareth's Bench' on the boundary at the top of the ground under the Hawthorn tree.
The cricket was enjoyed by all with 37 afternoon games played in all, winning, losing and drawing in roughly equal proportion.
Finishing 9th in the league was a good performance and because of teams dropping out further up the league structure we were 1 of only 8 teams to stay in the league.... (6 promoted and 4 relegated).
Our opening pair of Arundel and Singh created a new Division 4 record of 234 for the 1st wicket against Crown Taverners, only to have it broken again later in the season. The season also saw an undefeated 212 opening stand...... only to be overhauled by the opposition for the loss of only 3 wickets!
As well as results and tables there are numerous score cards available for the season below.
