The pavilion now has a new thatch!  Work has been completed in time for the start of the new season.
Many thanks to all those who made this possible - contributors, givers of grants, everyone who helped
at fundraising functions and, of course the thatchers!  Phase one of our plan to refurbish the pavilion - still lots to do!!

6 - a - Side Tournament 10th July

posted 30 Jun 2011 10:44 by Tim Jenkins   [ updated 1 Jul 2011 07:34 by Richard Wilson ]

Chawton 6-a-side tournament on Sunday 10th July 2011 at 12pm

Chawton will host it's first 6-a-side cricket tournament on Sunday 10th July.  There will be a mix of teams from Chawton, friends of the club and other touring teams.  The day will start at 12pm with a group stage, followed by a final later in the day. Details of the exact format and rules can be found below.

On the day there will be a BBQ and a Bar providing food, snacks and alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks.  All proceeds from the day will go towards the fundraising effort for replacing the thatched roof on the cricket pavilion.

We hope you can come down, support the club and enjoy the cricket.

Format:

6 teams of 6 people.  Each player pays £5

  • 2 round robin groups of 3 teams, total of 6 group games and a final
  • Each game is 10 overs, but the games will be split into 2 sessions, with each session lasting for 30 minutes
  • Each team will either bat or bowl and then come off, being replaced with another game. This format will keep everyone involved through the afternoon without too long a wait between games.
  • 1st group game starts at 12pm
  • Last group game starts at 5.30pm
  • Final between the winner of Group A and winner of Group B and will start at about 6pm

Summary of rules:

  • Every player bowls 1 over except the wicket keeper
  • No balls are a free hit
  • There will be a power boundary behind the bowlers arm, where a 4 counts as 8 and a 6 counts as 12. This will be clearly marked and be about the width of a football goal
  • Batsmen retire at 25, but can return to crease if rest of the rest of the team is out
  • Both innings of the same game will be bowled from the same end to save time. (the alternate games will be played from the other end)
  • Every team needs to bring a new ball
  • Every team will be expected to provide someone to umpire 2 of the 5 over sessions
